Everyone can do this. It doesn’t depend on art ability. So long as you have something to say from the Lord which you want others to be able to see, you can do truly excellent prophetic art.
Why is this? Mainly because prophetic art isn’t about pretty pictures, it’s about sharing an insight. So long as you can get your message across intact, you will have succeeded. The task is a whole lot simpler than many people think.
The Bible says that “a word, to the wise, is sufficient”- meaning that the briefest and simplest message, if received by somebody who appreciates it, is all that’s needed. The world is hungry to receive all they can from the Lord and whatever you do is like manna.
You might want to think of it this way: artwork is only a way for you to leave a message behind for someone when you aren’t there to talk. This is as true of a Rembrandt as it is of a doodle. A pencil-drawn arrow on an envelope which points to an apple on the kitchen table, is enough to get somebody fed. And whatever you do to point people to the Lord is going to deliver them to Him for a feed.
For setting down what you’ve received from the Lord, stick figures will do, cut-outs, cartoons, badly drawn figures – if such things convey what the Lord is saying, they will have delivered the very stuff of Heaven to people. If you have seen the glories of Heaven, paste together clips of sunsets and bright lights and whatever else that will serve to get your vision across. You can always add a further explanation.
And it’s surprising how simple the picture can be and still get a weighty message out there. People ‘fill in the blanks’ with their imagination, so long as they get the gist of what you’re trying to say, and the Holy Spirit opens out the rest of the meaning. In times of persecution Christians have made the two strokes of the sign of the cross in the dust for others to see, and it has worked courage and hope - enough to see people all the way through martyrdom. Deep calls to deep, with a simple voice.
Consider this: My Down’s daughter’s pictures have more impact a lot of times, than my own do. Hers look like a 5 year old did them and some of them can’t even be recognized without an explanation. But when the caption is put with them, it’s clear she has seen something astounding and profound. One unrecognizable squiggle with little darts over top of it was explained as, “A rabbi praying at Shabbat, and the same power coming down then from heaven as comes down at baptism”! The Spirit of God rests on the things she’s been shown. I defy anyone to look through her gallery and not be aware they are looking at things straight from His realm, and to not be humbled and moved by what they see. People will similarly be blessed by what you do.
One thing is for sure, you will succeed at this.
